Walmart is redoubling its efforts to win a piece of the music download market by refreshing its MP3 Downloads Store, offering music for less and improving features.
The company is now offering more than 3 million MP3 audio files from all major labels, with pricing now starting at 74 cents each. The company will also soon leverage its massive brick and mortar retail store chain by including a free MP3 download with every CD purchased in store or online beginning in mid-November.
The new online music store now features a Top 25 section featuring music from popular artists, free MP3 “track of the week,” more content, and improved compatibility with different operating systems and Web browsers. Walmart’s MP3 Downloads Store supports Mac OS X, Windows and Linux, and works using Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. The system can sync music and album artwork directly to default media players, such as iTunes.
