Aero Quartet has released SimpleMovieX 3.8, a “lightweight” movie editor for Mac OS X. It costs $35. The upgrade is free for registered users.
SimpleMovieX offers video editing features similar to what Apple includes with QuickTime Pro, but SimpleMovieX also lets you edit AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 movies. The software lets you split movies into clips, batch convert, edit audio using a waveform tool and more.
New to the 3.8 release is a revamped search pane that helps you select and cut directly in “tiles” where your movies are display. Spotlight comments are now preserved after editing and saving. And you can export the tiles of the Search Pane in a printable contact sheet. Several movies can now be merged in one shot, simply by dropping them on a blank document.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.3 or later. QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is needed to edit MPEG-2 movies. QuickTime Pro is not required.
