Plantronics Bluetooth home phone adds Mac software
By Peter Cohen
Plantronics has announced Mac compatible for its Calisto Pro cordless home phone system. The Calisto Pro costs $279.95, and the software (and user guide addendum) is available for online download.
Calisto Pro, which has been available for Windows users since last year, includes a cordless phone and integrated Bluetooth headset with charging base. The headset works with landline, mobile phone and computer-based calls.
The phone itself features digital encryption that’s free of interference from wireless networks, microwave ovens and other home devices. It works up to 300 feet from the base, features a built-in speakerphone and flip-up waist clip.
The headset incorporates a noise-canceling microphone and extended boom to help cut down background noise. You can pair the headset with both the Calisto and a mobile phone, so you can field both landline and mobile calls from the same headset. You can also use the headset when you’re on the road, and it will automatically re-pair with the base phone when you get back home.
The software simplifies connectivity for Mac users who want to import Address Book contacts to the phone. It also lets you take calls using the Skype VoIP service, using a USB connection.
