Game publisher Konami has announced plans to support the iPhone and iPod touch with four new games coming in 2009. The games include a new installment of the famed Metal Gear Solid franchise, Silent Hill, Dance Dance Revolution and an updated version of Frogger.
Metal Gear Solid Touch comes as a bit of a surprise to long-time fans of the Metal Gear franchise; it was recently hinted at on the Web site of Kojima Productions, the developer responsible for the best-selling game series, headed by famed game designer Hideo Kojima. Metal Gear Solid Touch is a new game set in the same world as Metal Gear Solid 4.
Silent Hill: The Escape is a new installment of the famed horror survival game series that spawned a motion picture, while Dance Dance Revolution S Lite is aimed at iPhone and iPod touch users looking for a new rhythm-based music game experience.
Frogger is a bit of a mystery at this point. While Konami talks about it as a future release for the iPod touch and iPhone, a version is already available and has been out since the summer. Frogger is a remake of the classic 1980s-era coin-op arcade game in which you must navigate frogs from one side of a busy highway and river to the other, without getting hit or running into obstacles.
Each of the new games is being designed to take advance of the iPhone’s touch screen capabilities and accelerometer, according to Konami.
Konami Mobile already produces a number of games for various mobile platforms, including titles based on Metal Gear Solid and Frogger.
