Fujifilm announced five additions to its Finepix point-and-shoot line. Among the new models are two ultraportable J-series cameras, a fashion-conscious Z-series camera, a waterproof addition to the Z series, and a high-zoom S-series camera.
Fujifilm Finepix S1500fd
The new high-zoom model—the 10-megapixel Finepix S1500fd—serves up a 12X optical zoom lens and dual mechanical and digital image stabilization, but only a 33mm film equivalent on the wide-angle end.
The S1500fd has full manual controls for aperture, shutter, and ISO levels, but also offers a range of automatic settings for more casual shooters, including automatic scene selection and setting optimization, face detection, red-eye removal, and an “Instant Zoom” feature that keeps a wider view of a subject in the frame until the shutter button is pressed. Also handy is the fact that the Finepix S1500fd runs on four AA batteries. Selling for $250, the S1500fd will be available in March.
Fujifilm Finepix J250 and Fujifilm Finepix J20
The two new entries to Fujifilm’s ultracompact J-series aren’t short on features despite their slim frames. The 10-megapixel Finepix J250 offers a 5X optical zoom lens that includes a 28mm film equivalent on the wide-angle end, a 3-inch-diagonal LCD screen, dual mechanical and digital image stabilization, automatic scene selection and setting optimization, face detection, and standard-definition, motion-JPEG movie recording at a 640 by 480 resolution. The J250 will be available in March for $200.
The 10-megapixel Finepix J20 shares many of the same specs, but lacks the wide-angle lens (the 3X optical zoom clocks in at 35mm on the widest end), has a smaller 2.7-inch LCD screen, and has digital image stabilization only.
The Finepix J20 will be available this month for $130.
Fujifilm Finepix Z30
Geared towards teenagers and style hounds, the 10-megapixel Finepix Z30 will be available in three colors: black, orange, and pink. In addition to its fancy looks, the Z30 will offer a 2.7-inch-diagonal LCD screen, a 3X optical zoom starting at 35mm, digital image stabilization, a mode that captures images in rapid succession with the flash on and with the flash off, and a motion-JPEG movie mode. The Finepix Z30 will be available in March for $180.
Fujifilm Finepix Z33WP
Fujifilm also announced the 10-megapixel Finepix Z33WP, a waterproof camera that’s submersible down to 10 feet underwater. The Finepix Z33WP also packs in automatic scene selection and setting optimization, face detection, red-eye correction, a 30-frames-per-second motion-JPEG movie mode, and a 2.7-inch LCD screen. Available in black, pink, and bright green, the Z33WP hits stores in late March for $200.
