When you install new software, you can never be quite sure what may happen. Problems may crop up in the most unexpected places—such as with software seemingly totally unrelated to the program you just installed.
Safari 4 is a case in point.
If you are an Apple developer, you may have installed the developer version of Safari 4. If so, Apple confirms that Safari can cause iMovie ’09 to crash simply by clicking iMovie’s Titles or Transitions buttons. Who’d have guessed?
Happily, this bug is fixed in Safari 4 Public Beta (despite the fact that it still has a Develop menu, the Public Beta is not considered a “developer version”). To upgrade, run the Safari 4 Uninstaller utility for the developer version and install the Public Beta.
Even with the latest version of Safari 4, you may be in for a surprise. Installing the Web browser can cause Mail to crash. The reason is similar to one that I previously covered, where a third-party Mail plug-in results in Mail crashing. In this new example involving Safari, to prevent the crashes, remove any GrowlMail plugins from the ~/Library/Mail/Bundles folder.
