Vonage, the popular Voice over IP (VoIP) phone service, now offers its Vonage Pro service to Mac users. Vonage Pro is part of the company’s Residential Premium Unlimited Plan and costs $35.
Vonage is an alternative to a conventional “land line” telephone. The service enables you to make and receive phone calls to any phone line using a regular phone and an adapter that works with your home or business broadband Internet connection. The service bills itself as a less-expensive alternative to regular phone service.
Vonage Pro offers users unlimited local and long distance calling anywhere in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, along with free calls to landline phones in parts of Europe, bundled with 25 calling features including Call Waiting, Voicemail and Caller ID service.
But the service also provides a “softphone” that can turn your Mac into a fully functional phone, enabling you to make or receive calls—even from a laptop, while you’re o the road, along with 25 free “visual voicemail” messages that convert your voicemail messages to text you can read in e-mail or from your cell phone. Using the softphone, you don’t need to be at your home or office in order to send or receive calls using Vonage.
