Apple on Thursday expanded its movie offerings on the iTunes Store to include HD downloads. HD movies on iTunes will cost $20 to buy and $5 to rent.
Among the HD movies now available are “Bangkok Dangerous,” “Transporter 3,” and “Punisher: War Zone,” and you can pre-order such titles as “Quantum of Solace,” “Twilight,” and “The Spirit.” Apple has a new section in iTunes specifically for HD movies.
You can play the HD movies on a Mac, a PC, or on widescreen TV with an Apple TV, as well as in standard definition on the iPhone or iPod with video (previously Apple only offered HD movie rentals to Apple TV owners).
The iTunes Store now has more than 10 million songs, more than 40,000 TV episodes, and more than 5,000 movies available for rent and purchase. Apple has already sold more than 250 million TV episodes and sold or rented more than 33 million movies.
