Freeverse Software has announced an update to BumperCar, its kid-oriented Web browser for the Mac. The update is free, and BumperCar costs $30 to register (a demo is available).
BumperCar features content-control and customization features, so parents and teachers can make sure that their kids are surfing only to sites that show age and subject-appropriate material. It features a fun and colorful interface, but uses Safari’s own underpinnings to provide a compatible and fast Web surfing experience.
The software requires Web browsers to use their “SafeSearch” features, so no inappropriate links are returned; it also sports white- and black-listing capabilities, and filters out the ability to give sensitive information such as home address.
New to the 2.2 release is an updated version of Apple’s WebKit engine, which works faster and is more secure. Also new in this release is compatibility with Adobe Flash 10. A larger default window has been added and more.
BumperCar requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later and a G3/500MHz or faster.
