QStar Technologies has announced that its HSM archive platform is now available for Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard.” HSM is an archiving and storage management system aimed at enterprise environments.
Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) manages the migration of data across various forms of storage from RAID to optical, including Blu-ray and tape technologies. The methodology HSM manages is known as a “3-2-1 strategy” — three copies of all critical business data are maintained on two different types of storage media, with at least one copy sent offsite on removable media.
Capabilities include a single volume view that can span media; off-line volume tracking, transaction logging, scheduled archiving, on-line backup and restore, media transportability, and more.
QStar anticipates that the HSM platform will be appealing to publishing, graphic design studios, audio and video editing businesses and medical imaging practices that rely on Mac OS X-based servers for shared storage and data management.
