Viewpoint Corp. today announced the release of a beta version of its Viewpoint Media Player plug-in, now for the Macintosh. The Viewpoint Media Player enables users to browse Web sites that incorporate Viewpoint media technology.
Viewpoint Media Player is a visualization tool designed for the Web. It enables users to view 3D graphics, photographic panoramas, audio, vector text and more. The software is leveraged by some e-commerce sites, but Viewpoint says that it has applications beyond that — it can be also used for entertainment and games.
Viewpoint executive vice president of engineering Anders Vinberg said that getting the software to work on the Mac was a challenge.
“Viewpoint utilizes two-way scripting capabilities, which until now has never been possible in Internet Explorer on the Macintosh. It was important to us to provide the same unique experience for Mac users that Windows users have always enjoyed,” said Vinberg.
Viewpoint Corp. indicates that a final version of the Mac plug-in is expected to be released in the next few months.
System requirements call for a PowerPC-based Mac; 128MB RAM; 5 MB available HD space; 56Kbps modem or faster; Mac OS 8.5 or later; Netscape Navigator 4.7 or later or Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or later; 256 color display.
