Group Logic, makers of ExtremeZ-IP, on Tuesday announced the release of ArchiveConnect, a system that enables organizations using Macs to manage file archiving and hierarchical storage management (HSM).
For the end-user, ArchiveConnect gives you a way to flag files to archive then to access them later. It includes file previews, and supports Quick Look previews and Cover Flow in Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard.” It operates as a plug-in that works with the Finder itself.
ArchiveConnect helps organizations to reduce storage costs by moving infrequently-used files to low-cost storage systems. Files can be stored on a file server or may be archived as a “pointer” or “stub” that can be linked to an offline storage system.
A demo is available for download. Organizations interested in purchasing ArchiveConnect are required to call Group Logic directly.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6, will be supported when it ships, according to the developer.
