FontGear (formerly Morrison SoftDesign) has released FontGenius 1.0, a font search and identification utility that examines pictures and identifies typefaces of any text in a picture. With its recognition technology, FontGenius gives users a suggested list of fonts that match the characters in an image. It will also generate character previews of the matched fonts.
FontGenius can match installed fonts and uninstalled fonts using its font profile database. It supports most image file formats, and can even grab an image from your desktop. Users can also search the list of results to find, purchase, or download the matched fonts.
The program runs on Mac OS X 10.3 or higher and on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. It costs $40 for a single-user license and $150 for a site license. A demo is available at the FontGear web site.
