Also on the ITV shortlist is Simon Fox, chief executive of HMV; Guillaume de Posch, the former chief executive and chairman of ProSiebenSat.1; and former BSkyB chief executive Tony Ball.
The Guardian reports that about six candidates are understood to have met ITV’s board last week in what is considered to be potentially a final round of interviews to find a replacement for Michael Grade.
ITV is suffering badly from the global ad slump. Revenue at ITV1, which accounts for 39 percent of all UK TV advertising spend, fell 20 percent year on year in the first six months of 2009.
The company is trying to offload assets including social networking website Friends Reunited. It has been reported this week that it could be sold for as little as £15m. ITV paid £175m for it at the end of 2005.
The ITV Network is made up of 15 regional licences, providing television to viewers across the UK. 11 of the licenses in England and Wales are owned by ITV Plc, formed in 2004 following the merger of Carlton and Granada.
SMG owns the two Scottish licensces, Scottish Television and Grampian; UTV and Channel Television own the licenses for Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands respectively.
