TransMedia on Wednesday announced the launch of Glide Engage, a new social networking and micro-blogging service designed to integrate with the rest of TransMedia’s Glide Mobile technology.
Glide Mobile is a cloud-based service that provides users with group colloboration capabilities, cross-platform file storage with detailed rights management capabilities and file translation, and more. The service is built around “Glide Desktop,” a suite of online applications that enable you to e-mail, compose word processing documents, create presentations and generate spreadsheet data. Data is synchronized between the Mac and the online repository using a native desktop application.
Glide Engage expands the service’s scope with the ability to send and read messages that incorporate news, documents, images and other files. The service provides users with 10GB of free storage capacity.
Text-based posts of up to 1,400 characters are displayed on the user’s profile page; you can take part in public or private discussions that are stored in the Glide Engage Inbox or Outbox, and discussions can be archived in Glide Write, Microsoft Word 2007 or earlier, PDF and RTF formats.
Glide Engage works with Safari 3 or later, Firefox 3 and other browsers. Glide Engage will be available on mobile phones including the iPhone starting on Friday, August 7, 2009.
