Sound Studio 3.6 is now available from Freeverse. It’s an update to the audio editing and sound creation app developed by Felt Tip Software, and is a free update for registered 3.x owners.
Sound Studio can be used to digitize analog audio, record podcasts, edit audio and more. You can create your own mixes, tweak audio levels and equalization, apply digital effects, then output the resulting audio to all major audio file formats.
The 3.6 update adds support for more Core Audio formats and the IMA 4:1 audio codec for iPhone development. Audio Unit plug-ins and resampling have been tweaked for improved efficiency; new shortcuts and toolbar adjustments have also been made.
Sound Studio cost $80. System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later, G3/500MHz or faster, 512MB RAM, 16MB VRAM and 500MB hard disk space.—Peter Cohen
Bug fixes highlight ScreenCap update
ScreenCap, Macvide’s Flash conversion utility for Mac OS X, has been updated to version 2.2. The latest updated includes a fix for a screen-grabbing issue as well as miscellaneous bug fixes. A single license for ScreenCap costs $40, and the software requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.—Dan Moren
fmDataGuard plug-in for FileMaker now at version 2.0
WorldSync updated its fmDataGuard plugin for FileMaker on Wednesday, boosting performance and eliminating initialization delays.
fmDataGuard logs all data views and changes to applications and solutions built with FileMaker Pro; it also lets developers rollback data and recovery from crashes or corruptions.
The fmDataGuard 2.0 update introduces a Log Reflection feature that shows a change history when users hover over any field. The update also provides a new differencing engine that shows changes between various versions of a field.
fmDataGuard costs $1,250 for a new server license; current customers can upgrade to version 2.0 for $937.50. The plugin requires FileMaker Pro 8.5 or higher and FileMaker Server 8.0v4 or higher.—Philip Michaels
SeeFile adds e-mail notifications in version 4.7
SeeFile Software on Wednesday updated its SeeFile Web server software for sharing media files to version 4.7. The new version adds e-mail notifications, a full history log by user and action, the ability to annotate multi-page PDFs, and support for the latest Web browsers, such as Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, and Internet Explorer 8.
The software starts at $499 for the entry-level installation, and goes up to $4995 for the Corporate package, with several different options in between.—DM
SkypeCap adds auto-recording option
SkypeCap has update its eponymous application SkypeCap for Mac to version 3.1. The update is free for registered users, and costs $50 for a new license. SkypeCap helps you record audio and video conversations you have using Skype, the popular Voice over IP (VoIP) software.
New in version 3.1 is an automatic recording option. The developers have also enabled an auto-check for updates. Various bugs have also been fixed. SkypeCap for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later and 10MB hard disk space.—PC
