PopCap Games on Thursday confirmed that its hit casual game Plants vs. Zombies will be coming out for the iPhone and iPod touch in late 2009. It’s already available for Mac OS X and Windows.
Plants vs. Zombies pits the walking undead against your garden. takes a page from “tower defense” games as you defend your home from invading hordes of shambling zombies. While the initial premise sounds macabre, Plants vs. Zombies is hilarious fun, because you defend your property using a menagerie of different plants with special defensive an offensive capabilities: Everything from plants that shoot peas like bullets to exploding potatoes, man-eating plants and more. And the zombies come in a variety of shapes and sizes — “old men” zombies on canes, football-playing zombies and much more.
PopCap Games also announced that Plants vs. Zombies — heretofore only available as a download from the PopCap Web site for $20 — is springing into retail stores in boxed form. You can find it at the Apple Store and from big box retailers including Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target.
