Maybe the worst thing about the App Store is that it’s an embarrassment of riches. Sure, there are a zillion fart apps. But there are also thousands of really cool apps, ones you might never even know about if someone didn’t point you in the right direction.
We set up AppGuide.com to help solve that problem. It’s also the reason we’ve reviewed nearly a thousand iPhone apps in the past 15 months. But we thought we could do more.
That’s why today Macworld is introducing App Gems, a $2 iPhone app that will help you find good apps. Developed by Macworld with the programming expertise of the good people of DS Media Labs, App Gems presents you with an exclusive App Gem of the day, a good app handpicked every weekday by Macworld’s team of editors and reviewers. You’ll be able to read the last two weeks’ worth of app picks direct from the Today’s Gem tab.
The app also provides quick access to our Essentials, handpicked collections of apps in various themes and categories, from zombie apps to racing games to apps about football and the other kind of football. And we add more Essentials every week.
From the app’s Top Rated tab, you can see the highest-rated apps in each category on the store, as determined by Macworld’s reviewers. And the News tab provides a full-content feed of all the iPhone and iPod touch related news that we post on Macworld.com, right within the app.
