On Tuesday Dell announced the 5130cdn ($1549), a workgroup color laser printer that the company claims is the “world’s fastest single function letter-size office color laser printer.”
Dell rates the 5130cdn at 47 single-sided pages per minute (ppm) and 37ppm for double-sided pages, though Dell did not state in its press release or on the 5130cdn product page the print quality at which the speed ratings are taken.
The 5130cdn has a print resolution of 1200 by 1200 dots per inch (dpi), a 550-sheet paper tray, and a 150-sheet multipurpose input tray. The printer has one gigabit ethernet port and one USB 2.0 port.
According to the 5130cbn product page, the printer is compatible with Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X versions 10.3.9 to 10.5; Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is not listed.
The printer also comes with PCL 5c, 5e/6 Emulation (81 fonts) and Adobe PostScript 3 (136 fonts).
Dell also released the 3330dn ($599), a monochrome laser printer that Dell rates at 40ppm. The 3330dn has a 250-sheet paper tray, USB 2.0, and ethernet. Dell lists Mac compatibility with OS 9.2 or later, as well as Mac OS X versions 10.2 to 10.6.
