Were Macworld prone to tabloid-style controversy, we might use this paragraph to boldly declare that Adobe is dropping Mac support for Flash!
But Macworld is about the cold, hard facts. And the facts are these:
Adobe has announced that Flash Player 10.1, due in the first half of 2010, “will be the last version to support Macintosh PowerPC-based G3 computers.”
Got that? That means if you’re still rocking an iBook from the same year Finding Nemo and The Matrix Reloaded hit theaters, then sometime after the next release of Flash, which is itself sometime next year, Adobe will no longer support Flash for your ancient computer, including security updates.
Adobe claims dropping this support for computers last made the same year the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Oakland Raiders in the Super Bowl is necessary “due to performance enhancements that cannot be supported on the older PowerPC architecture”—a claim we’d be sure to belittle, were we not living in an Intel Mac world.
