The Week in iPad Cases
It’s once again time for a new installment of Macworld’s weekly iPad-case roundup, where we scour the deepest recesses of the Web for new protective accessories for Apple’s tablets. Although this week, we didn't have to search too hard, because the annual Consumer Electronics show had plenty of iPad cases on display.
As always, this week features a mix of great cases, including an early peek towards Valentine’s Day.
The Genuine Leather Case (iPad mini; $50) is a...case made from genuine leather. It’s designed to feature a unique “vintage feel” that makes the animal hide look and feel great.
The front cover folds around to double as a viewing stand, and it’s compatible with the iPad mini’s magnetic sleep/wake feature. In addition to the brown vintage-feel leather, the case is also available in black or chestnut.
The Axis Folio (iPad mini; $70) is an all-in-one protective solution that equips a folio-style case with a convenient card pocket in a slim design.
Available in three different motifs, the case features multiple viewing angles in landscape orientation, a convenient elastic band to keep it secure during transport, and all the appropriate cutouts to ensure access to the iPad mini’s ports, buttons, and cameras.
The Orion (iPad 2, 3, and 4; $160) looks a bit like a luxurious version of Apple’s Smart Case, but with a leather-bound exterior and a front cover that folds around—in portrait, rather than landscape orientation—to double as a stand.
The case comes in white, black, red, brown, or tan.
The NeoGrid (all full-size iPad models; $20) is a sleeve made from heavy-duty neoprene that sports a soft poly-suede lining; together, these two materials protect from bumps and scratches, and help keep your tablet clean.
Available in either a flat grey or a color-accented exterior, the sleeve also features a secure Velcro closure that keeps everything safe and sound during transport.
The Gripster (iPad 2, 3, and 4; $60) features a unique, three-in-one handle that helps you secure your tablet in a variety of situations: in your hand, hanging from a vertical surface, or propped up in landscape or portrait orientation for viewing or typing.
The Gripster comes in blue, black, bordeaux, silver, slate, or white.
The iFolio (iPad 2, 3, and 4; $99) is a soft-padded, zipper-closure leather case for carrying your iPad around safely. The iFolio features a series of pockets that can hold papers, accessories, and cards, and it also sports a carrying handle.
The case is available in black, grey, cognac, tan, blue, green, red, or pink.
The Canvas (iPad 2, 3, and 4; $50) is a folio-style case made from a tough, matte-coated-canvas material wrapped around a tough polycarbonate shell, offering excellent protection without adding too much bulk. The cover can be used as a stand for viewing or typing in landscape orientation, and it’s compatible with the iPad’s magnetic sleep/wake feature.
The case features a special latchless closure, and comes in black, grey, red, tan, or olive green.
The Aegis (iPad mini; $45) features a shock-absorbing TPE lining combined with a hardened, polycarbonate plastic shell for maximum protection.
It comes with a free screen protector, and is available in black, blue, pink, red, or green.
It’s never too early—apparently—to shop for Valentine’s Day gifts for your loved companions. The SmartStyle Love’s Armor (iPad mini; $40) comes in a terminally cute heart pattern and features a foldable cover that can be flipped around to double as a stand.
The case, which is compatible with the iPad’s magnetic sleep/wake feature, is also available in a variety of other colors and styles.
