I have a not-so-secret confession to make: I hate doing chores. You’ve got to find the time for it, then work up the motivation, and once you finally have both of those things, you need the supplies to finish the job. I’ve tried organizational apps before, but they only really help with time management and supplies—motivation is an entirely different story. Lucky for all the procrastinators out there, Runloop’s Dunnit has created a fun and unique way to solve this problem—and perhaps, to help us to finish the tasks we set for ourselves.
On its own, Dunnit would have been a strong to-do list program, but it went a step further and integrated Aurora Feint’s OpenFeint technology to make the simple act of doing chores into a pseudo-game with unlockable achievements and high scores. Runloop founder Daniel Wood’s reasoning? “Gamers need to get things done too.”
Not only can you game against the world, the app also allows you to compete directly against friends, colleagues, and yes, even roommates. Imagine turning a weekly chore list into an Olympic sport! Dunnit supports Twitter integration as well, so (like Foursquare) you can broadcast your feats of brilliance to the tweeting masses.
For the list-making itself, the app takes a simple and straight-forward approach, providing several easy ways to add tasks either singularly or in batches. By default, items are listed together by date due, though you can also categorize items with Dunnit’s tagging feature for specific jobs. And if you need to, you can create recurring tasks for those pesky repeatable chores.
Dunnit is available on the App Store for $5 and supports English, Finnish, and German. The app is compatible with either the iPhone or iPod Touch and requires OS 3.0 or later.
