Our Verdict
The MDR-V700DJ are popular among the DJ/DJ-wannabe set, becoming a sort of GenX status symbol. They offer decent isolation from external sound, flashy style, and good comfort for full-size headphones. Rotating, swiveling earcups make them ideal for DJ/mixing use. Unfortunately, we found their sound quality to be lacking compared to many headphones in the same price range (and even some, like the Beyerdynamic DT 231, that cost much less). We thought the prominent upper bass and mediocre midrange made the V700DJ a poor choice for vocals, jazz, and classical; on the other hand, fans of electronica, drum and bass, and even some hip-hop and rap may enjoy the emphasis on the beat. And the V700DJ will probably gain you the approval of your club-hopping friends.–Dan Frakes
