Beyerdynamic DT 231

If you’re looking for a pair of excellent closed headphones that won’t break the bank, the DT 231 are real winners. Providing balanced sound with very good detail and impressive (but not excessive) bass, they’re are also extremely comfortable thanks to a spring-loaded headband cushion. The DT 231 won’t wow you with their plasticky looks, but they’re among our personal favorites — it’s tough to find better sound for under $100, especially in closed headphones. We can’t recommend these enough for the price. (If you don’t need isolation, the Grado SR60 and SR80 are excellent alternatives in an “open” headphone design.)–Dan Frakes
