Although Power Support makes a number of their own products, some of which are among our favorites, the company is also beginning to import some unique Japan-only products — items that otherwise might never make it to the U.S. market. The Miyabi case is one of these, and style-conscious iPod owners are all the better for it.
Made in Kyoto, Japan, the Miyabi is a combination leather/fabric case. The main body is made of attractive designer fabric, available in a number of different patterns; the inside surface is black plush to prevent scratching of your iPod’s shiny surfaces. The face of the case includes black leather trim, as well as a leather strap that holds the iPod in place when you pull it over the top of the case and snap it closed. (Two thin leather strips along the base of the case support the bottom of the iPod while still allowing access to the dock connector port.) Finally, although the Miyabi doesn’t have a belt clip or loop, it does have a sturdy metal ring that can be attached to a bag, belt, or keychain, or even to a lanyard for wearing your iPod around your neck. (This “iPod as fashion accessory” approach appears to be big outside of the U.S., as many of the imported cases we’ve seen include such rings and lanyard attachments.)
The Miyabi leaves the iPod’s screen and Click Wheel exposed; however, Power Support makes what may be the best aftermarket screen/Click Wheel protectors on the market, the 3D Wheel Film (for the Click Wheel) and the Crystal Film (for the screen); both of these products are reviewed in our Accessories section. We suspect most people considering the Miyabi are in it for the designer appearance, but when used with these protectors, it will protect most of your iPod’s exposed surfaces.–Dan Frakes
