RF-based remote control for dockable iPods
The RemoteTunes is Targus’ version of ABT’s iJet remote control for dockable iPods, which I previously reviewed in a feature comparing the various iPod remotes on the market. (You can read that article at the “full review” link below.) I found the iJet to have the best range of any remote, and the layout and feel of the iJet’s transmitter were among my favorites.
In my testing since receiving the RemoteTunes, I can confirm that it performs similarly to the iJet. But it bests the iJet in two other areas: Whereas the iJet’s MSRP is $60, the RemoteTunes has an MSRP of only $50, making it an even better value. And the RemoteTunes includes more accessories — it comes with everything bundled with the iJet, plus a clear acrylic stand that holds your iPod in an upright position during use. (A hole in the base of the stand allows you to connect Apple’s dock connector cable to your iPod.) Thanks to the RemoteTunes’ lower price and better accessory package, it has displaced the iJet among our favorite remotes and brought the RemoteTunes within range of Griffin’s $40 AirClick in the value category.–Dan Frakes
