Aluminum belt clip for use with TuneWear’s IceWear mini case
We previously reviewed TuneWear’s IceWear for the iPod mini, a silicone “skin” case that offers decent shock and scratch protection while leaving the Click Wheel, screen, and top surface of your iPod mini exposed; the case includes an integrated belt loop rather than a belt clip. TuneWear has recently released their Aluminum Clip, which is basically an aluminum cradle with belt clip designed to be used with the IceWear to provide better protection and a standard belt clip.
To use the Clip, you simply slide your IceWear-encased iPod mini into it. The bottom of the Clip has a metal lip to prevent your iPod/IceWear from slipping out the bottom, but it’s really not necessary — the fit is extremely tight. (In fact, the fit is so tight that you shouldn’t plan on removing your iPod from the Clip/IceWear combination too frequently, if ever. This is probably the Clip’s biggest drawback.) Each Clip is carved out of a solid chunk of aluminum, and is both attractive and well-made: The cut edges are rounded, the brushed surface feels smooth, and the belt clip provides a good grip and has a hook at the bottom to help secure the case on your belt or bag strap. The belt clip also provides a metal loop for connecting a lanyard.
The Aluminum Clip doesn’t offer any additional protection for your iPod mini’s Click Wheel or screen compared to the IceWear itself. However, together with the IceWear, the Aluminum Clip does provide excellent shock protection if you happen to drop your iPod, and gives you a traditional belt clip. It also adds approximately 2 ounces of weight and a bit of extra bulk.
