Window-mount cradle for holding your iPod in the car.
As we’ve mentioned in other reviews, we’re not fans of vehicle mounts that use adhesive or other “non-removable” methods to hold your iPod while in your car. Pro.Fit’s miMount with WindowMate would therefore seem to be a great alternative: It features a black plastic iPod cradle connected — via a 6-inch flexible arm — to the same sort of suction-cup window attachment used by many automobile GPS systems. You can attach the miMount to your windshield, or even your side window, in an orientation that lets you easily see your iPod’s screen and access its controls. (Although, as always, we don’t recommend trying to control your iPod while driving.) The miMount/WindowMate combo is very sturdy and well-built, with an arm that, while flexible, is stiff enough that your iPod won’t bounce around — you actually need to adjust the arm before attaching the miMount to your windshield, as trying to adjust it while mounted will likely pull it off the glass. And the miMount’s cradle has an opening at the bottom to let you connect a cable to your iPod’s dock connector slot (for example, a car charger, FM transmitter, or direct stereo connection).
However, the miMount with WindowMate has two limitations. The minor one is that the non-slip back surface of the cradle is almost too non-slip: It’s difficult to slide your iPod in and out. The second, more significant, is that the miMount is currently available only for “thin” full-size iPods: 10, 15, and 20GB 3rd- and 4th-generation models, and 20 and 30GB photo/color iPods.–Dan Frakes
