Pivoting USB adapter for iPod shuffle
SwitchEasy’s PivotDock is one of those products that’s an interesting idea but useful mainly for a specific group of people — in this case, those who don’t want their iPod shuffle to “stick out” when plugged into a USB port. The PivotDock is simply a small, 90-degree USB adapter for the iPod shuffle: You plug the PivotDock’s USB plug into any USB port, and your shuffle plugs into the USB port on the PivotDock; instead of sticking straight out from your computer, your shuffle sits at a right angle to your computer’s USB port. True to its name, the PivotDock also pivots 180 degrees (with detents every 22.5 degrees), letting you rotate your shuffle around the axle of your USB port.
This functionality will be most useful for laptop users hoping to avoid accidents, but I also found the PivotDock to be a nice accessory for the front-mounted USB ports on my Power Mac G5 and Dell Dimension — more than once I’ve accidentally knocked my iPod shuffle out of those USB ports when walking by.
Note that unlike DLO’s Flexible Dock for iPod shuffle, the PivotDock won’t let you use your shuffle with a recessed or crowded USB port, as it’s just as wide as the shuffle itself; in fact, the PivotDock’s 1-inch (diameter) size means that it requires slightly more space around your USB port than the iPod shuffle itself.
