Our Verdict
XtremeMac’s MicroFolio is a “folio”-style case that resembles a wallet. In fact, it can be used as a wallet thanks to a slot for a couple cards and another for cash, although these slots aren’t large enough for the MicroFolio to be used as a permanent wallet replacement for most people.
Inside the MicroFolio, thin plastic protects both the screen and Click Wheel of your iPod. Unfortunately, this plastic can impede scrolling and volume control, making for a jerky experience. (You won’t want to play your iPod’s games through it.) The case’s front flap covers these plastic layers and the front of your iPod most of the time, but has no securing mechanism. That said, your iPod won’t slide out easily.
The case doesn’t include belt clip or a way to attach one easily; XtremeMac has gone for simple style with the MicroFolio. But overall, it’s a stylish case that will likely resonate with minimalists: If you don’t mind these shortcomings, its solid protection and easy port access make it a case that does its job well.–Derik DeLong
