Silicone cases for the iPod abound, and as far as they go, Power Support’s Silicone Jacket for iPod nano is par for the course. It includes clear, adhesive-plastic protectors for the iPod’s screen and Click Wheel, as well as a removable plastic belt clip. The case itself is similar to other such cases: There are openings for the hold switch, the screen, and the Click Wheel; the bottom of the Silicone Jacket is open to allow access to the headphone jack and dock protector and to get your nano in and out of the case.
The nano fits snugly inside and its controls are easily accessible. Like many cases of the silicone variety, the Silicone Jacket attracts its fair share of dust and lint. However, like other Power Support “skin” cases, the silicone is of a thicker variety than competing cases, which makes me more confident in its ability to protect the iPod from drops and bumps. And as long as the clear film is applied to the screen and Click Wheel, your nano is also fully protected from incidental scratches and dirt.
The Jacket’s detachable plastic belt clip hugs the sides of the case, allowing you to slide it up and down. The somewhat tacky texture of the silicone means that the clip grips the case pretty tightly, though I might think twice before using it while jogging. If you’re looking for a silicone case, this offering from Power Support will get the job done, but don’t expect any particular bells, whistles, or flair.–Dan Moren
