PodsPlus’s Aluminum V2 for iPod with video is, as its name notes, an anodized aluminum case. Five different color combinations are available, including a black and red design reminiscent of the U2 iPod. Like most aluminum cases we’ve tested, the V2 includes a clear plastic screen protector (which scratches fairly easily); but unlike the others — which either completely obscure the Click Wheel or leave it completely exposed, the V2 provides a silicone “skin” covering for your iPod’s controls, complete with raised indicators for each button. This feature makes the V2 stand out, as it lets you access the Click Wheel while still offering some degree of protection for it.
The interior of the case is lined with neoprene to protect against scratching the iPod itself, and openings are provided for your iPod’s hold switch, headphone port (large enough for many third-party plugs), and Dock Connector. The case folds open to allow you to easily remove your iPod; a raised bump in the case grabs a notch in the front cover to secure the case closed. A lanyard and a removable belt clip — which doesn’t leave a “nub” behind when removed — are included.
PodsPlus’s Aluminum V2 is a great case, with no flaws to speak of. It offers complete protection along with accessibility — a rare combination in an aluminum case.–Derik DeLong
