Protecting your iPod is serious business and Speck Products SkinTight Deluxe for iPod nano isn’t about to let you down. A thick silicone skin, it provides protection for the your nano’s delicate screen as well as plenty of accessibility features.
Available in black or translucent colors, the SkinTight Deluxe comes with a silicone skin and a snap-on, rotating belt clip. Both are sturdy and well-made; the silicone is thick and heavy, with firm sides that don’t crumple easily, even when the case is empty. Holes expose your nano’s Click Wheel and screen, but Speck includes a hard-plastic screen protector that you slip into place after inserting your nano into the case. The top and bottom edges of the cases are open to let you access the hold switch, dock connector, and headphone jack.
The belt clip is a fairly simple affair; it comes in white or black, depending on your choice of case color. It features a non-stick backing to ensure your encased iPod doesn’t slide out of the clip. The nano and its skin click into place easily and the belt clip rotates 360 degrees for full access to all of the nano’s functions.
The lack of Click Wheel protection is unfortunate, especially given the case’s stellar screen protection, and there is probably a bit more of the nano’s top and bottom edges exposed than absolutely necessary. Finally, the heaviness of the case does add some bulk to the nano and, like many silicone skins, the SkinTight Deluxe attracts dust and lint pretty easily. But as protection goes, the SkinTight Deluxe is a solid choice.–Dan Moren
