What sets zCover’s iSA Micro Duo Pack for iPod nano apart from the bevy of silicone case offerings? It’s two, two, two cases in one. Well, it’s actually two separate silicone skins; the only major difference between the two is that one model comes with a lanyard. Still, if you like having the option to choose between what case suits your mood, the zCover Duo Pack gives you that freedom at a price that won’t break the bank.
The skins, as I said, are nearly identical. The non-lanyard model has an opening for your iPod’s screen and an open bottom for accessing the dock-connector port and headphone jack. The bottom of the lanyard model, on the other hand, provides only an opening for the headphone jack; the loop for the lanyard prevents access to the dock-connector port. Instead, the bottom is “hinged”; you fold it back to access the dock connector (and to slide the nano in or out of the case). Both models feature a small nub on the top to help you find and work the iPod’s hold switch. Though both have openings on the back for a belt clip mount, no clip is included. The Click Wheel coverings for both models provide raised markings that indicate the controls underneath.
An included hard-acrylic screen protector features a rubberized edge that prevents it from scratching your iPod’s face. Slip it into place once your nano is in the skin and you’ve got full face protection. In addition, the white versions of the cases — which I tested — actually glow in the dark. This feature was a little eerie, since I wasn’t expecting it, but it could be useful for finding your nano in a dark bag or room.
Though the iSA Micro Duo Pack may not be a standout offering, it provides two solid cases for the price that many vendors charge for just one. If versatility is what you’re looking for, the Duo Pack won’t let you down. –Dan Moren
