Griffin’s Disko for iPod video has one very unique feature. lights. That is, green, blue, and red lights surrounding your iPod’s Click Wheel. When you shake your iPod, these lights turn on in various patterns. This light show is initially entertaining and mesmerizing. Unfortunately, after the first couple hours, they become more distracting than anything — and you can’t turn them off). Perhaps kids and teenagers may tire less quickly?
The case itself is available in either white or black plastic with two included back pieces, one each for the 30GB and 60/80GB fifth-generation iPod (with video). You snap on the appropriate back piece, which isn’t easily removed. This design can be a problem, as the battery-containing bottom of the Disko — yes, it requires batteries for all those blinking lights — completely blocks your iPod’s dock-connector port; every time you want to charge or sync, you have to remove your iPod from the case. This gets old fast.
Griffin’s Disko is a very unique case, but the feature that makes it so loses its novelty quickly and impedes everyday tasks like charging and syncing.–Derik DeLong
