Dexim solar-powered iPhone charger arrives for summer
By David Dahlquist, Macworld
Summer is almost upon us, and the great outdoors beckons us to laze on its beaches, bike down its trails, and picnic on its grassy knolls. But why not keep your iPhone charged while enjoying these sun-drenched activities?
Dexim is here to help with its new
DCA19 P-Flip, a solar-powered battery and stand for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. While this isn’t the first device to
harness the power of the sun for energy, the P-Flip offers a number of impressive features.
The P-Flip is capable of extending talk time up to eight hours, video or game time up to 15 hours, or audio-playing time up to 60 hours, thanks to its 2000 mAh lithium polymer battery. Flip the P-Flip open to reveal two camouflage-colored solar panels that convert the sun’s rays into juice for your iPhone. It takes around 15 hours of exposure to natural sunlight to fully charge. It also functions as a foldable stand for your iPhone, capable of holding your iPhone horizontally or vertically and allowing for hands-free viewing.
The P-Flip, which is
available online at SkyMall for $80, might not appeal to everyone, but for those who spend a lot of time outdoors or in the wild, it could prove a valuable way to stay connected in case of emergency or during extended trips away from any power outlets. Just don’t forget to enjoy the weather while tethered to your iPhone.
