Adobe released the final version of its Camera Raw 6.1 update on Wednesday, three weeks after the latest beta was released. The 62MB update is only for Photoshop CS5, Photoshop Elements 8.0, and Premiere Elements 8.0 users.
The new version of the plug-in adds raw support for a number of cameras including the Olympus E-600 and E-PL1, the Panasonic G10 and G2, the Sony A450, Kodak Z981, and the Canon EOS 550D. Raw processing for the Mamiya DM40 medium format camera and Leaf Aptus-II 8 and 10R digital backs is also newly supported.
Included in the update is a new lens correction feature that will allow users to choose a profile for their exact lens and use it to correct any unwanted distortions, chromatic aberration, or vignetting. Additional manual lens adjustments for geometric distortion and perspective transforms have also been added. A number of lens profiles are included with the update and more are being created with the Adobe Lens Profile Creator which is available from Adobe Labs.
Camera Raw 6.1 fixes an earlier bug for Mac users that could cause Photoshop CS5 to suddenly quit when opening Camera Raw 6.0. Adobe has also released a DNG Converter 6.1 update, which adds support for the Olympus E-600, and an Adobe Bridge CS5 update, which addresses small bug fixes.
