FontGear has released FontXChange for Macintosh 2.5.
FontXChange, an application that converts fonts between common font formats, can convert fonts to OpenType, Web Fonts, PostScript Type 1, and TrueType for both Mac and Windows.
Version 2.5 introduces Web font support, which allows users to convert fonts to the emerging Web Open Font Format (WOFF) standard.
John Morrison, president of FontGear, said that support for Web fonts is a critical new feature. “Growing support for HTML 5 has our customers thinking more than ever about moving valuable content to the Web. By adding Web font support to the already powerful features of FontXChange, we’ve made that move easier than ever.”
In addition to Web fonts support, the new version features an upgrade to Unicode 5.2 and various interface upgrades. Other features include: batch processing for converting entire font libraries; a font inspection window with preview; and support for many font encodings, including Adobe Standard, Unicode, Mac Roman, Windows ANSI, and European.
FontXChange lets you convert PostScript Type 1 fonts (Mac or Windows format) into a single OpenType font file that works across platforms. This eliminates problems with the outdated two-file system of screen font and printer font combinations, the company says. You can also use the software to convert TrueType fonts to PostScript fonts and eliminate printing problems and incompatibilities associated with TrueType fonts and high-end output devices. You can convert Windows fonts to Mac and vice-versa, share fonts across different computers and operating systems, and recreate missing screen fonts using a PostScript font file in any format.
FontXChange 2.5 works with Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, on either a PowerPC or Intel processor.
The software costs $99 for a single user license and $350 for a site license. A free demo is available from the company’s Website.
