We’re all abuzz for Apple’s press conference on Friday morning, so I’ll keep it short and sweet. Did you know Apple apparently tried to buy Palm? So says one source. Also, Whoopi hates her iPhone to death and you can get a peek at the trailer for the Facebook movie. Just read through the remainders for Thursday July 15, 2010.
Apple tried to buy Palm before HP won the bidding war (Business Insider)
It seems Apple was in the market to scoop up Palm before the company found itself acquired by HP. According to Business Insider, Cupertino was mainly interested in the large store of patents and intellectual property Palm owns. How’d it lose out to HP? Well, there’s a chance that Palm balked at Apple’s request that it build Steve Jobs a palatial raft out of all the unsold Palm Pre units.
Whoopi Goldberg hated her iPhone 4 so much that she destroyed it (Gawker)
Whoopi Goldberg needs to tell you something—and that something is that she brutally murdered her iPhone 4. After it dropped a call while she was on an interview, Whoopi bashed the poor iPhone against a car door until it would never drop anything ever again. And I tell you this: no jury in the land would convict her.
iPhone Configuration Utility 3.0 (Apple)
Sure, Apple released its bar-raising iOS 4.0.1 update and its Wi-Fi-fixing iPad 3.2.1 update on Thursday, but it also released the 3.0 version of the iPhone Configuration Utility. What’s that? It’s the software that administrators at large organizations can use to roll out settings, install applications, and troubleshoot problems on a large number of devices, plus it has unicorn support—ah ha, I knew you weren’t paying attention.
The Social Network Trailer (Sony)
The first trailer with actual footage from forthcoming director David Fincher’s The Social Network, the Aaron Sorkin-penned story of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Which reminds me, should anybody get around to making a movie about Macworld, I have a modest casting request (he’s got such great hair!).
