The Mac software bundle meets the TV reality show scene with the latest bundle promotion from Mac Bundle Box. VoteBundle presents a list of twenty Mac applications and the opportunity to vote on them. The top ten applications will be included in Mac Bundle Box’s next app bundle for a set price. The bottom ten will presumably be left on the island for the smoke monster.
At the time of this writing, Yazsoft’s Sharetool 2 and Koingo’s MacPilot 4 are vying for the lead with around 1000 votes each, while The Escapers’ Flux pulling a solid third. Yazsoft’s Speed Download and Playback are duking it out at the cutoff, with only one vote separating the two. Bringing up the rear: Basset Software’s Debtinator with negative 601 votes (ouch!); Macworld, on the other hand, thinks Debtinator is nifty.
I corresponded with Mac Bundle Box spokesperson Christian Owens about how the developers of these applications were being compensated, since no one knew going in whether they would be included in the final product. Owens said that the top ten will receive payment in proportion to their retail pricing, while the bottom ten are in it for the publicity: “We’re in discussion with developers about other forms of compensation. We just want everyone to be happy.”
VoteBundle will run until Sunday at 6 PM, with the resulting bundle available for sale three hours later. Pricing has not been announced. You can subscribe on VoteBundle’s site to be kept alerted by e-mail whether your preferred apps make the cut.
