Cedar Park, Texas-based Web Information Solutions has released two new versions of its popular Pocket Informant app for the iPhone and the iPad. They include several new features and take advantage of all that the latest incarnations of iOS have to offer.
The iPhone version of Pocket Informant, in particular, has been redesigned to be location-aware: you can now add a location to a task and, if you’ve got a multitasking-capable iOS 4 background, let the app sit in the background. When you get close to that location, the app will send a notification, thus reminding you that the task is, so to speak, at hand. In the words of company CEO Alex Kac, “you now tell Pocket Informant not only when to remind you about a task, but also where to remind you.”
Separately, WebIS has also released an iPad specific version, Pocket Informant HD, that takes advantage of the tablet’s additional screen real estate to deliver a more appropriate user experience. The various editions of the software can sync with each other using one of several services, including Google, Toodledo and Microsoft Outlook.
Pocket Informant requires an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.13 or later and can be purchased from the App Store for $13, although the company is currently offering it the special price of $6 “for a limited time.” Pocket Informant HD requires an iPad running iOS 3.2 or higher and costs $7.
