M-Edge’s Journey Bag for the iPad offers a good storage-to-price ratio and a separate, zippered compartment for storing your iPad. But some odd design choices and a lack of internal pockets may disappoint those who want to keep small gadgets and trinkets organized on-the-go.
The M-Edge Journey Case is a messenger-style case for the iPad that comes in three colors: striped red, striped blue, and black. The bag has a single, zippered storage compartment, a removable strap, and a protective flap with clasp to secure your precious cargo.
The Journey Case’s main compartment houses almost everything: two mesh storage pockets, enough open space to fit a few magazines and a book or two, and a very-thinly-padded, zippered pocket for a netbook or iPad. The bag’s flap provides protection from the elements, but the main compartment also has its own zipper under the flap. There’s also a thin, zippered compartment on the back of the case that is wide enough to fit a magazine, but not really deep enough to hold it securely. This pocket is probably better as a stash area for airline tickets and headphones.
I’m not thrilled by M-Edge’s design choices. Although there are two mesh pockets inside, letting you separate small items to some degree, the holes in the mesh are big enough that pens and other thin items can get caught in them. The strap is removable, but I’m not sure why, since there’s no carrying handle. Finally, the plastic clasp for the flap is placed quite high up on the inside of the flap, making it awkward to reach, especially while walking.
Complaints aside, this bag does offer one of the better storage-to-price ratios that I’ve seen. If you need affordable iPad transportation with room for books, and you don’t mind some of the odd design choices, the M-Edge Journey Case is a decent option.
