At the keynote speech at the annual celebration of all things id Software, company co-founder John Carmack revealed that id will be putting its upcoming shooter, Rage, on the iPhone.
Carmack demoed the portable version of Rage on Apple’s recently-released iPhone 4, noting the game was running at 60 frames per second. The developer stated that the game would be playable on all models of iPod, iPad, and iPhone, though framerate would vary depending on platform power. According to Carmack, the iPhone version came together after id Software had toyed with Wii development, though no mention was made of any Wii-bound projects from id during Carmack’s speech.
Unlike its console-bound cousins, Rage will be available on the App Store the end of the year, with another title due next year to accompany the company’s “big product launches.”
