DataViz says it’s as committed as ever to iOS versions of its productivity applications, resolving much of the uncertainty about the future of the developer’s productivity apps for the iPhone and iPad.
Earlier this month, smartphone maker Research In Motion bought some of the assets of DataViz. In its statement confirming the purchase, Research In Motion said it “hired the majority of [DataViz’s] employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform.” That raised some question about the future of the iOS versions of DataViz’s Documents To Go offerings, which let users view and edit Microsoft Office files on their mobile devices.
DataViz eased some of the doubts by updating Documents To Go Premium last week and following up with this week’s release of Documents to Go 4.0. And in an e-mail sent to Macworld Wednesday, DataViz reiterated that it remains committed to many of the platforms the company previously supported, including both iOS and Android.
“While we did sell some of our assets to RIM, DataViz itself has not been acquired and is still very much in business,” Wesley Hamnett, DataViz’s marketing and channel coordinator, told Macworld.
As for Documents To Go, look for more updates beyond the recent 4.0 releases, which added speed boosts, full keyboard support, and enhancements to Word To Go and Sheet To Go for both of the company’s iOS offerings. “In fact, we will be releasing several new versions of Documents To Go in the coming weeks and you can expect to see other offerings from us in the future as well,” Hamnet added.
