If you thought that the Glee app for iPad and iPhone was really just a “Glee”-themed karaoke app, you’ll be happy to know that said app has been renamed to Glee Karaoke.
The app, developed by Smule—purveyors of fine music-based iOS apps like Ocarina, Leaf Trombone, I Am T-Pain, and the iPad-only Magic Piano—already empowered singers around the world to sing along with their favorite songs from the hit Fox television series and be Auto-Tuned just like the show’s stars.
Now here comes an update to the Glee app, featuring not only the new name, but a new focus on a daily leaderboard where your stellar musical performance will be ranked against your iOS device-wielding peers.
As in the original version of the app, which was released last April, Glee Karaoke will aim to improve your pitch and provide automatic, live harmonies in your own voice. Smule will continue offering new songs after each episode airs; they’re available at $1 a pop (song).
Glee Karaoke costs $1 and requires iOS 3.1.2 or later.
