If you don’t care about “sleek,” “thin,” or “stylish,” Hard Candy’s $30 Squish Skin could be the iPad skin for you. Hard Candy says the Squish Skin is “more protective than bubble wrap,” and I wouldn’t doubt it—this thing is like a fat suit for the tablet, with the case’s silicon material riddled with air chambers that provide extra shock absorption. The Squish Skin wraps around the iPad completely, with especially thick padding around the edges. Unlike some other shells, it doesn’t cover up the iPad’s volume buttons or Sleep/Wake button, instead providing holes in the flubber so you can reach the controls directly. If you’re truly paranoid, or just like flinging your iPad around for a thrill, the Squish Skin could be a great shell for you. Otherwise, it’s overkill.
