Lexmark has launched Genesis, the latest addition to its lineup of Web-connected, all-in-one inkjet printers.
The Lexmark Genesis targets style-conscious professionals and small business and home office users with print, copy, scan, and fax functionality packaged in a new, vertical case.
“From its unique, sleek upright design to the broad range of SmartSolutions, the Lexmark Genesis is truly an innovative, one-of-a-kind product in today’s AIO (all-in-one) market,” said Paul Rooke, Lexmark executive vice president and president of its Imaging Solutions Division. “Most importantly, after a quick and easy setup, busy professionals will immediately experience its time-saving instant preview, quick copies, and unmatched speed when scanning content to the cloud.”
This four-color thermal inkjet printer features print speeds of up to 33 pages per minute in black and up to 30 pages per minute in color. You can print 4-by-6 color photos in 26 seconds, according to Lexmark. Black print resolution can reach 2400-by-1200 dpi; color print resolution can reach 4800-by-1200 dpi.
The printer’s built-in camera technology features a 10-megapixel imaging sensor, and the Genesis flatbed scanner can scan at speeds of three seconds a page, the company says.
In addition, the Lexmark Genesis features a 4.3-inch capacitive color touch screen, which provides an online gateway for users to access the company’s SmartSolutions. These include cloud-based applications such as Stamps.com, Evernote, Box.net, and TripIt. They also include various apps that help with a wide range of specific printing tasks, such as printing lined or graph paper or printing photos from your MobileMe account. SmartSolutions are up and running for other Lexmark printers.
Alongside the Genesis announcement, Lexmark also launched its Twitter and Facebook SmartSolutions. These apps let users scroll through and search their Twitter feeds, view their Facebook walls, and print photos right from the device’s screen. The Twitter app is available now. The Facebook app will be available next month.
The Lexmark Genesis also features the company’s Vizix print technology, which features separate ink cartridges for greater speed and high-quality print output at an economical replacement cost, according to the company.
The printer’s Mac OS X support ranges from version 10.3.9 through 10.6 in various configurations for both PowerPC and Intel models.
The printer’s other key features include include wireless networking, built-in duplex printing, and a three-year warranty with lifetime phone support (one-year limited warranty plus a free, two-year extended limited warranty if the user registers the product online within 90 days of purchase).
The Lexmark Genesis is priced at $399 and will be available in early 2011, both online and in stores in the U.S. and Canada.
