It’s safe to say that “Photoshop in your pocket” is still a complicated pipe dream. But a major update to
FX Photo Studio from MacPhun looks to give modern smartphone photographers more of what they seemingly want—sweet, sweet effects and ways to share photos with the world.
FX Photo Studio elbows its way to the front of the App Store’s crowd with a ton of effects—now more than 170 with even more available via in-app purchase. With this major 3.0 update, you can stack effects on top of each other and even adjust sensitivity and other elements to fine tune the aesthetic you’re shooting for. You have more tools at your disposal as well, including crop, rotate, flip, and even a random filter option if you’re feeling lucky.
In FX Photo Studio 3.0, MacPhun added more than 30 new effects and finally organized all included effects into 19 different categories. If you stack or customize effects, you can save them as presets to easily apply them to other photos later. A new favorites list is also handy if you just need quick access to stock effects. Other additions include support for sharing via Flickr, copying an image to the clipboard for pasting into other apps, and full support for the iPhone 4’s Retina Display and high-resolution five-megapixel camera.
FX Photo Studio 3.0 is available now for $3 in the App Store. It requires an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later.
