iHome has announced the iW1, the company’s first AirPlay-enabled speaker system. Making its debut at the International Consumer Electronics Show on Thursday, the iW1 will take advantage of the AirPlay feature offered by iOS 4.2 and iTunes 10.1 that lets you stream music to an AirPort Express, Apple TV, or compatible third-party devices over a Wi-Fi network.
The iW1 is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and employs Bongiovi Acoustics Digital Power Station (DPS) technology and four active speakers to achieve quality sound in a compact design. It features a backlit, capacitive touch panel for its user interface, and works with iHome’s iOS apps for network setup, device control, and firmware updates.
Using AirPlay, you can wirelessly stream music from iTunes or an iOS device over Wi-Fi to the iW1 speaker system, and enjoy your tunes in any room in your house. To add additional speakers to your home network, all you need to do is purchase more iWi speakers, and AirPlay will do the rest. The iW1 also supports charging and local audio playback via your iOS device’s USB cable.
iHome has not yet announced pricing, but you can sign up to be notified—and to receive an exclusive discount when the iW1 becomes available—on the company’s Website.
