SnagFilms.com, a Website that offers more than 1800 documentaries for free online viewing, is making 51 of those movies available in a new iPad app.
The company released its new application last week. Some of the more prominent documentaries featured in the app—Super Size Me and Confessions of a Superhero among them—have already been available to iPad users via the Hulu Plus and Netflix apps. (But some lesser-known flicks, like Off the Grid: Life on the Mesa, aren’t even otherwise available on DVD; you can see a complete list of current titles here, and the company promises to add films to the iPad library over time.) Unlike the other services, however, SnagFilms is completely free, albeit ad-supported by American Express’s Members Project.
The SnagFilms app lets users queue up films for later viewing. Film buffs can share the movies via e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter, and they can also buy the film from iTunes for offline viewing on any iOS device. (See the video below for a demo of the app.)
The company is giving away a 16GB iPad in conjunction with the app launch. SnagFilms is compatible with iPads running iOS 3.2 or later.
